Film Trailers and Conventions

After looking at and studying many different film trailers, it has become apparent that they are very similar and have many of the same conventions. They are all unique in some ways, with their own selling point. Romantic comedies are particularly stereotypical in the ways in which they are presented. They are very bouncy and happy, letting the audience know the type of film they they will be watching. The music used is very effective and stereotypical, with fast paced, bouncy tunes being used. This makes it immediatly obvious that the film will be a feel good movie and that it will leave the audience smiling and in a good mood.
As well as the audio, the visual part plays a large part aswell. This is very similar to the sound that is used, in the way that it is fast paced. There is a lot of cross-cutting used as they tend to flick very quickly from scene to scene. They also tend to show many different types of scenes from the film. In particular, they pay attention to the biggest and well known celebrities. This is because if you know of the person and they are well known and respected, then you will be more intrigued and want to therefore see the film.

Myself and Jade Payne have decided to create a trailer for a romantic comedy film. We have come up with a plot which we will then summerise and pick scenes from in order to create our trailer. We initially decided to film a music video, but we then decided against this as we faced a few difficulties such as getting authorisation of a soundtrack we could use.
The story is about a love triangle with the characters being a husband, wife and a honeytrap. The story begins with a wife and husband who appear to be happily married and in love. However, we then realise that the wife is suspicious that her husband is having an affair, and therefore hires a honeytrap to try and catch him out. This results in the husband who although is not cheating on his wife, falls in love with the honeytrap.
This movie will have hilarious consequences that will apply to a wide variety of people. This is also why we chose to do a romantic comedy, as we believe that it will apply to a broad audience. The film will be suitable for people off all ages and both genders, as we dont want to make it too stereotypical. I also think that this film is appealing and unique because i don't think romantic comedies are usually based on cheating.
