THE HEARTBREAK KID
Genre – Romantic Comedy
Narrative - A newlywed man who believes he's just gotten hitched to the perfect woman encounters another lady on his honeymoon.
Unique Selling Point - The film is not the typical romantic comedy, as all does not work out as well in the end as it usually does with this genre of film.
Target Audience - 15, the film contains mild sexual references and bad language.
Music - The music up until the couple get married is very slow paced and loving. When we realise that the man is not in love with the woman the music becomes fast paced to hilight his irritation with her.
Camera Types - Mainly medium close ups as to show the characters facial expression and body language, as due to this being a comedy the actors expressions are humorous and add to the comical side of the film. There is also walking space as we cross over fastly from scene to scene.
Dialogue - We see scenes and convosations with both women, this way we can compare what he is like with both of them and the difference between the relationship. We also see conversations with him and his friend, to discuss how unhappy he is with his wife.
Voiceover - The voiceover explains to us what is going on as we see clips of it happening. For example 'The guy who could never commit' as we see him at a wedding at the singles table.
Credits and intertitles - The only character from this film that is mentioned by name is Ben Stiller. I feel this is because he is the most famous and well known, especially for comedy films. After his name is mentioned 'The Heartbreak Kid' comes up in bold letters.
